Hi there. I am Amanda, creator of MOTHERHOOD. I grew up in Hood River and after spending most of a decade away I moved home two year ago to raise my family. I was living in Portland. I really mean IN Portland. We were in the Pearl District and though that was wonderful and fun before having children, once I had a baby I was ready for a backyard for him to get his knees dirty in and chase chickens around. So, we moved back home and there isn't a day that passes that I don't feel grateful to live here.
Even though I have called Hood River home for 22 years of my life there are so many new things I am discovering in this beautiful place we call home. I am also discovering all the beautiful and interesting people that live here living out their passions while raising children. My hope is that we can share stories in the printed publication and on the blog to create a tighter community. We also aim to be hosting dinners for mothers and family events throughout the year.
I don't want this magazine to be AD heavy. Instead I want it to be story and content heavy. I want the advertisements we do include to feel like they are meant to be there; that they flow with our content and that they are for products and businesses we believe in. Because of this and because of the cost to print a magazine (if you aren't a huge publishing house) the price per issue will be more than picking up Better Homes and Gardens at the grocery store, but it will also be higher quality and a delight for your eyes. Not to mention about the place we call home.
This magazine will be something you can save for years to come instead of recycling it or ripping out pages for a vision board or collage. It will feel more like a book and be something you can come back to. It will feature your friends and neighbors and share insights about the area we call home while also providing a world view of parents, products, and ideas that come from outside of our community.
We will be creating a kickstarter campaign late this summer to fund the first issue so I hope you follow along and/or subscribe to our newsletter to stay up to date on how things are progressing. Oh, and if you write, photograph, edit, or draw and want to be a part of getting the first issue off the ground, please email!
This is for our community about our community.
